It’s the Season to Invest in an Air Purifier

For a Healthy Home Environment Invest in an Air Purifier

The Department of Pollution Control has announced that Thailand’s annual hazy season will occur earlier than usual this year. This is because of a combination of accumulated microdust in the air and the usual winter high-pressure systems creating stagnant weather conditions across the country.

Until Thailand can solve the twin problems of too many internal combustion vehicles on the roads and rampant agricultural burning of fields after harvesting, the country will have to learn to cope with the bad air quality at certain times of the year.

The steady rise in the purchase of electric vehicles is one positive sign, and the government is said to be working with farmers to find alternative methods to burning the nation’s fields and paddies after harvesting.

However, until these efforts start to pay off in easing Thailand’s annual air pollution, maybe the best households can do is invest in a quality air purifier and run it day and night if you’re occupying your home all day or at least at night when you’re sleeping.

Must-haves in an Air Purifier

Certain must-haves make one purifier favourable over another. Quality air purifiers work by filtering the air in your home. Look for a purifier that has a High-Efficiency Particulate Filter (HEPA). These filters are effective at trapping particles that are 0.3 microns in diameter and above. Try to avoid any purifiers advertising purification by UV or ionisation methods. These methods produce ozone, which can harm and inflame lung tissue. Buy from an established manufacturer that can reliably supply replacement filters when they need to be changed in the future.

Be sure to buy a purifier that is rated for the room size where it will be located. Measure the room’s floor area and use it as a guide when shopping for purifiers. Buy a larger capacity purifier than the room calls for if there is a question of enough coverage.

Until Thailand can effectively solve its air pollution issues, air purifiers are your best bet for keeping the air in your home healthy and liveable.
